PH Consul General urges Filipinos to apply for assistance due to Covid-19

Philippine Consul General for Alberta and Saskatchewan Provinces Zaldy Patron has urged Temporary Filipino Workers including undocumented Filipinos, who came in first as TFWs, to avail of the Covid-19 government assistance for Filipinos.

In an online meeting with Filipino newsmen last May 12, Patron said that all they need to do is to send an email and to let them know of their situation.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Vancouver will receive requests for assistance through email address, vancouverakap@gmail.com.
Once the requirements are complied, POLO Vancouver will deposit the $285 Canadian to their bank accounts.

Meanwhile, Patron said that assistance was given to the family of Armando Sallegue who died on May 5 after being infected by the novel coronavirus. The 71-year-old Sallegue came to Alberta to visit his son Arwyn’s family.

Patron said they were able to contact the daughter-in-law Mercy and assistance were extended on hospital bills and cremation. He said the Filipino community can also extend assistance directly to Mercy Rencio Sallegue.

In other developments, the Consul-General’s office has also reached out to the Filipino community affected by floods in Fort McMurray.
