School has also taught us many pieces of information which help to build our skills and competencies. It is understandable though that for reasons outside of our control, it is possible that many are not as exposed or not as knowledgeable about certain topics.
In this article I have listed a few online resources for some topics where I felt that supplementing my knowledge is valuable. In some conversations and observations with fellow Filipinos – and fellow adults actually – I came to realize that learning more about these can help increase awareness and improve not only our own lives, but of those around us.
1. The School of Life: Education on Self and Relationships – The School of Life has both a website and a YouTube channel, and it focuses on thought-provoking articles on relationships, ethics, psychology, self-awareness and more. For me, this resource has been particularly helpful since growing up, I had limited access to people with whom I could have those “heart-to-heart” conversations about values, relationships, trauma, self-esteem and philosophy. O. School and Sexplanations: Resources on Reproductive Health – There is so much to learn about sexuality and reproductive health. The most important benefit I gained is learning not only about the medical terms of men and women’s body parts, but the natural processes that occur at different occasions. A huge benefit is harm prevention for adults and children. It is important to be able to identify when and how certain behaviours are inappropriate as well as what to do about it. The other part is empowerment and enjoyment, especially for those who are having intimate relations with others. The links are:

How to ADHD: Awareness on Mental Health – This YouTube channel is a great one for mental health. It also contains a lot of the resources that can help anyone. I stumbled upon the channel when I was researching how to set up my bullet journal, which is like a handwritten planner. Talking about mental health issues is hardly discussed in the community where I grew up. With the greater awareness about the topic these days, this helped me understand why some people have certain conditions, and how they can be supported to live healthy and successfully. The Financial Diet: Financial Advice and Strategies – I liked this channel mainly because the hosts are ‘millennials’ like myself, young adults who are figuring out the journey to being more financially stable and organized. They cover a wide range of topics that directly impact us such as finances and budgeting, or indirectly impacts us but are beneficial, such as meal planning, thrifting and having uncomfortable conversations with those who are affected by our financial decisions. Panlasang Pinoy: Filipino Cuisine – This is my go-to website for learning how to cook Filipino food. Aside from the few cooking lessons in high school, I had limited opportunities to learn how to cook myself. When I used to live with my relatives, hanging out with my uncle, our ‘resident cook’ was a bit intimidating. The comprehensive ingredients and instructions list and the accompanying video for each recipe make it easy to follow for those who may be intimidated in the kitchen like I once was. The links are:
