Pinoy organizations extend assistance to 'Kababayans' in High River, Okotoks

Various Filipino organizations have stepped in to help community members affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in Alberta Province.

The Philippine Business Society of Alberta (PBSA) brought grocery items to Filipino families last May 3 in High River, where majority of them are workers at the Cargill meat processing plant that was first shut down because of the pandemic. The meat processing plant has resumed its operations last May 4.

“We want them to feel that the Filipino-Canadian businesses in Edmonton have heard their concerns,” said PBSA president Bayani Alcantara.

The Okotoks Filipino Association has also reached out by bringing groceries to the families in High River and Okotoks last April 22.

Migrante Alberta has continued reaching out by distributing groceries to the families, especially Temporary Filipino Workers, on May 17.

Last month, the Congress of Philippine Associations in Alberta (COPAA), Migrante Alberta, the Alberta Filipino Journal, Coco’s Nest Restaurant, fashion designer Fely Agader and Fort Distillery have also reached out to affected Filipinos in the Edmonton area.
