Quickly Premium Bubble Tea Callingwood-Fly Friendly Travel Tours lost its steam in the final quarter and bowed down to Genesis, 80-97 in the Open 2A Division of the 2019 Philippine Sports Association-Crosstown Auto Centre Spring Basketball League finals, May 19, at the Archbishop Romero gym.
Quickly Callingwood-Fly Friendly Travel took a slim lead, 57-55 off a jumper by Sarce Garcia, 6:56 left in the third quarter but Genesis quickly responded with Samson King, Lem Baui and Don Tagufa taking charge of the scoring chores, 71-65, 56 seconds remaining. Erdz Orquez cut the lead to just four points with a jump shot from the paint, 67-71 at the end of the third quarter.
Quickly-Fly Friendly could not find the momentum at the start of the final quarter and Genesis started piling up the lead, 82-72, 4:54 left and extended it to 88-77, 3:25 remaining.
King topscored for Genesis with 25 points, Tagufa added 23 points and Baui helped with 22. Harold del Leon led the losing cause with 21 baskets, AJ Mapa contributed 18 and Floyd Eyao scored 13.
“Masaya kami dahil after five years, nag champion kami,” said Genesis coach Francisco de Leon.
In the other final games, SBP beat Sabado Nights, 77-73 and Pinoy Auto Loans shaded Sunlife, 71-64 in the master’s divisions; CFH Elite stopped Rapbeh Boys, 79-71 in the open Division C; Crosstown Auto trounced Duke, 99-71 in the master’s C and Porkchop bested Barako, 98-87 in the Open 2B Division.
The league was organized by the PSA led by Gary Perpetua and backed by Crosstown Auto Centre through dealer-principal Joe Medina.
