Organizer Rey Nodado said the Cold Lake Filipino Basketball League gets going on June 22 to 23 with eight teams joining.
He said Filipino squads from Lac La Biche, Red Deer, Regina, Lloydminster, three teams from Edmonton and host Cold Lake are entered.
The league is just an ongoing competition of the year-round sports activity by the Filipino community in Cold Lake. Aside from basketball, Nodado and his team of volunteers are also organizing volleyball tournaments for the Filipinas.
“Basketball sa mga kalalakihan natin, volleyball naman sa mga kababaihan natin, para masaya,” said Nodado.

A prelude to a bigger sportsfest was organized by the Jesus Is Lord (JIL) in Sherwood Park last May 25.
Beng and Lito Agasino of A4 Oriental Store and Bake Shop invited us to witness the event and it was really fun to see that sports activities are organized for church members from all ages and we also had the chance to hear to “word of God”.
Hope to see you again for the next sports coverage in September!
