Riana Torrejon, the organizer and host of “For Girls-Dance for a Cause,” was very touched by the overwhelming support of the community. “Raising money and awareness were my objectives to help the cause continue the important work they do for girls around the world, including the Philippines,” said Riana. Her objectives, she said, were achieved with the help of many. It was a successful night filled with danceable beats by the Skyfall Code Band, great company, lots of laughter, and delicious food from Coco’s Nest Café. With over three hundred people in attendance, the cause was able to raise about five thousand dollars in net proceeds for Plan International’s Because I am a Girl movement. This money will fund work being done for girls in impoverished countries like the Philippines to help them overcome unique challenges brought on by their gender such as child marriage, which almost always forces girls to drop out of school.
