Jesus Is Lord Church Sportsfest

The 3rd ECV-DJV Cup, the Jesus Is Lord Church Area 1 Sporstfest, culminated on October 5, 2019 at Gametime Indoor Playground & Sports Centre.

After the smoke was cleared, South Edmonton, for the third straight year, captured the overall championship. The defending champion reigned supreme in Volleyball Men and Badminton by subduing Edmonton Main-PM and St. Albert, respectively. Its basketball team, though, failed to get to the podium as it placed only fourth after bowing to Leduc, the dethroned champion. But its players in the board games provided a strong showing by capturing gold in Chess through Nunrod Evan Canete & bronze in Scrabble courtesy of Jenny Agaton.

In basketball competition, Edmonton Main-PM won the most coveted crown when it defeated Sherwood Park in an exciting finals game. It also finished a strong second in the overall standing with respectable finishes in Volleyball Men (2nd), Badminton (3rd) & Chess (2nd).

Edmonton Main-AM, after finishing second overall last year with podium finishes in almost all events, could only finish second in Volleyball Women and third in Volleyball Men.

Leduc continued its dominance in Volleyball Women for three years in a row and in Scrabble after Mary Blanch Gawat defeated Faith Peredo of Sherwood Park for the second straight year.

Sherwood Park showed improvement with runner-up finishes in Basketball and Scrabble, and 3rd place finish in Volleyball Women.

Although St. Albert placed last in the overall standing, it placed second in Badminton and third in Chess.

Vhejhay Auman of South Edmonton emerged as the best performer after bagging the MVP award in Volleyball Men & Best Single Player in Badminton. His teammates, Rannie De Jesus and Venus Aguila, took home the Best Doubles Players award.

Mythical selection in Volleyball Men included Alfie Alipio & Glenn Segundo of South Edmonton, Charlie Mediado & Erwin Mayuga of Edmonton Main-PM, and Josh Delos Santos & Josh Cayanan of Edmonton Main-AM.

In the distaff side, Crystal Omega took the MVP honors for the third straight year. The Mythical 6 included Jellie San Pedro & Leny Ollanes of the Champion team, Che-che Delos Santos & Alexa Esteban of Edmonton Main-AM, and Agasino sisters, Alexis & Allysa, of Sherwood Park.

Dondon Tagufa of Edmonton Main-PM was adjudged as the MVP in Basketball. Jimpy Esusa & Alex Maravilla of Edmonton Main-PM, Adrian Agasino & Ayen Lamusao of Sherwood Park, and Arem Miciano of Leduc rounded up the Mythical 5.

Area 1 Pastor, Paul Narido, led the awarding of trophies & medals to the winners and was assisted by Pastors & Coordinators – Pastora Aida Romero of South Edmonton, Pastora Arlyn Orpilla of St. Albert, Sis. Lourds Cruzat of Sherwood Park, Sis. MJ Caron of Leduc, and Sis. Allyn Auxtero of Edmonton Main-PM.

This year’s edition adopted home-and-away in the group plays. On September 7, 2019, Sherwood Park and St. Albert played host to Edmonton Main-AM and Leduc, respectively. In the following Saturday, it was Leduc’s turn to host Edmonton Main-PM while Sherwood Park visited South Edmonton. On September 28, 2019, Edmonton Main-AM welcomed South Edmonton & Edmonton Main-PM hosted St. Albert.
