Back to School

Back to School

The month of September is now here and that can only mean one thing, the start of the school year. With the start of the new school year well underway it is important to reflect on the past summer. Ask yourself, did I see new places? Did I explore the land around me? Did I enjoy the beautiful summer weather? Most importantly, did I spend time with family and friends? In all honesty, my guess is that you did at least one of these things during the summer break and I am sure it will be difficult to say goodbye to the season of summer. However, I want to help all the students reading this get back to a regular routine in order to be productive and successful in their studies.

The first thing I would suggest to all students is to make sure that you get enough sleep. Without proper rest, it can be difficult to focus in class, or even do homework/study if you can barely stay awake. Second, make time for exercise at least a few times a week as it can help sharpen the mind during your studies and improve your health. Third, it is vital to manage your time effectively as we all have busy schedules. So, what I would suggest is purchasing or creating an agenda for the school year and writing important events on the dates way ahead of time (family events, tests, assignments, part-time work) so if anything comes up last minute, you know if you will be available or find a way to fit whatever it may be into your schedule. Fourth, try your best to stay positive in all situations. Yes, school can be stressful, and it can be hard to effectively manage your time, but that does not mean you should give up. It just means you need to take a break to prevent burnout and know you can achieve your goals/deadlines. Fifth, if possible, try to find someone who can hold you accountable for your studies, someone who watches over you to make sure you are not procrastinating too much and not overworking yourself. Having someone there to support you throughout the school year is crucial for success, plus it is always delightful having company and will help keep you sane.

This school year, I hope all of you work hard and achieve your goals while also having fun. If the thought of school still gives you everlasting dread, just look at it this way, summer break is only nine months away!
