A whirlwind one day official visit of Senator Tobias Enverga, Jr. and his wife Rosemer in Edmonton to attend the Filipino Senior Citizens of Alberta (FSCA) 35th Founding Anniversary on October 21, 2017 created a ripple of events for the Senator. From the airport, the Quezonian Club of Edmonton welcomed the Senator and his wife Rosemer headed by Jun Angeles, President of Congress of the Philippine Associations of Alberta and one of the founders of the Quezonian Club of Edmonton and his wife Hermie; Totie Mendoza, newly elected President of Quezonian Club with his wife Estrella; Lito Velasco, the Editor-in-Chief of the Alberta Filipino Journal. The Senator and his wife were whisked to Fat Jakks Restaurant for a luncheon attended by the members of the Quezonian Club.
Senator Enverga who hailed from Lucena City, the capital of Quezon Province, was delighted to see some of Quezonian friends and members who came from the towns of Lopez, Gumaca, Pagbilao, Sariaya, Alabat, and Candelaria to name a few. It was a joyful reunion with a lot of recollections.
The Enverga family owns the Enverga University (previously named Luzonian Colleges) and a lot of Quezonian members studied at this institution. Being the first Filipino- Canadian to become member of the Senate of Canada in Ottawa. The Senate plays an important role in the operation of Canada’s government. Any piece of government legislation must be approved by both the House of Commons and the Senate as well as the Canadian Monarch to become official law. Enverga is proud to represent the Filipinos/Canadians who are one of the largest sources of immigration in Canada and represent the Senate in the promulgation of law in Canada. After a brief visit with the Quezonians, the Senator attended the Meet and Greet with some business owners and entrepreneurs and an open forum to discuss the Small Business Owners proposed Liberal tax on passive income, income sprinkling and capital gains conversions with MP Kelly McCauley. The Panciteria de Manila open forum was attended by Consul-General Julius Torres, Atty. Joseph Angeles, Bayani Alcantara of Panciteria de Manila, Celso Andrade of Sunfreight Cargo, and Entrepreneur Kris Salumbides to name a few. The evening affair for the Senator was culminated as guest of the 35th Anniversary of FSCA and the Coronation of Madame Thelma Cerhit, FSCA Queen 2017. {Photos by Moses Billacura and Jose Angeles}
