Ida Beltran-Lucila: Edmonton Citation Award for Arts and Culture Recipient

Last November 25, 2019, during the City of Edmonton’s Salute to Excellence Citation and Performance Awards, Alberta Filipino Journal’s writer on arts and culture Ida Beltran-Lucila was presented with the Citation Award for Arts and Culture.

Ida is a highly accomplished dancer, teacher, and an arts administrator. Formerly a principal dancer with Ballet Philippines, she has worked unceasingly to develop Philippine art and culture in Edmonton. Ida spearheaded a multitude of projects including the Philippine Arts Festival, Edmonton Filipino Fiesta, Kalinangan, and The Learning Table, which enabled mentorships and expanded cultural awareness, the proclamation of Philippine Heritage Month in Alberta, and currently, the work to establish a Philippine centre. Under Ida’s leadership, the Philippine Arts Council has initiated collaborative projects, and partnered with schools to deliver programs on Philippine art forms.

The City of Edmonton has earned its reputation as the city of volunteers. Every facet of life in the city is enriched by the dedication of its citizens in arts and culture, community service, and sports. Citation Awards honour those individuals or groups who have given significant service and inspiring leadership in these areas.
