CIWA helps Pinoys integrate to Canadian society

By Maria Chelo Galay

The Filipino Community Development Program (FCDP) of the Calgary Immigrant Women Association (CIWA) helps members of the Filipino community integrate into Canadian Society regardless of their immigration status. This program works in partnership with the Calgary Catholic School District and it is funded by Family Community Support Services (FCSS).

One of the primary supports offered by FCDP is a regular one-day reunification workshop at St. John Reception Center where newly reunited parents and their children are invited to attend. Most of the parents came to Canada under the work permit or the live-in caregivers programs. Other services are provided such as parenting workshops, resource referrals, one-on-one counselling, in-home support, youth engagement activities, social events, volunteer and civic engagement opportunities and employment skill enhancement.
