The consular team served 466 Filipinos and other clients in Fort McMurray and nearby areas during the 2-day outreach for passport applications, notarial services, civil registrations, NBI applications, dual citizen applications, oath taking for reacquisition of Philippine citizenship, legal inquiries, and SSS service.

Fort McMurray is located in northeast Alberta, in the middle of the Athabasca oil sands, and has played a significant role in the development of the national petroleum industry. Some 5,000 to 6,000 Filipinos live and work in Fort McMurray.

The distance from Calgary is the main reason for the Consulate General to conduct the outreach mission for Filipinos and other clients in Fort McMurray. It takes about 7 to 8 hours of driving at 112 kilometers per hour for Filipinos from McMurray to travel the distance of 755.31 kilometers to Calgary for consular services.
